TEAM PICTURE (SUMMER OF 1998)

1997*1997*1998*1998

TEAM HISTORY

This team started out in 1995 as a roller hockey team called the "Stray Cats".  The name was decided on because of the many different cultures of people that made up the team.

After winning the very first season championship, Hooters was acquired to sponsor the team and from then on this team has been known as "Hooters Shooters".

In the seasons to follow "Hooters Shooters" always managed to finish with excellent winning records but could never again regain the championship.

Many team members were expressing their desire to change from playing roller hockey and hitting the ice.  Several teammates had played ice hockey growing up in their youth and the rest wanted to learn.

In the summer of 1997 "Hooters" appeared as the white team in the Sugarland Ice Hockey Recreational League. The team was not taken seriously as we were only a bunch of roller skaters. In our very first game the previous season champions were defeated 9-0 and we were quickly becoming the talk of the league.  continue...

We finished regular season play in first place with 11 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. We won the first round of playoffs against "Mason Jar", but were defeated in the finals against "Toronto" which was a surprise since we had played so well all season.

In our second season of Rec. league play we started off poorly by loosing our first 2 games. We managed to finish the season with a strong record and finished in second place. In the first round of playoffs we defeated "San Jose" and the final game was against "Dallas". This time "Hooters" had reached their goal Rec. league champions.

A 5 foot tall trophy was presented to the owner of "Hooters" and it can be viewed at 99 Woodlake Square in Houston, Texas along with a team picture that was taken right after the final game.

Where to go now?

The entire team decided to move to a different league managed by the Houston Hockey Association. This proved to be a difficult task as we needed to work hard to get adapted to the new level of competition.
